Begaj in the Parliament of North Macedonia: Leave nationalist rhetoric behind
The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj

The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, delivered a speech at the Parliament of North Macedonia, where he praised the relations between the two countries and the role of Albanians in the neighboring state.

He described North Macedonia as one of Albania's most reliable partners and stressed that bilateral cooperation is of a strategic nature. According to him, the two countries share common interests within the North Atlantic Alliance and should deepen coordination as allies.

Begaj recalled that Albania was among the first countries to ratify the protocol for North Macedonia's membership in NATO.

"We meet, talk, understand and interact at all levels. Our joint commitment to the European Union integration process and  bilateral cooperation must be further deepened," said the head of state.

Begaj stated that open issues with neighbors and nationalist rhetoric directly affect the climate of trust between countries and all actors must work closely in overcoming challenges.

The President emphasized that Albania and North Macedonia are and will remain neighbors, therefore, according to him, it is necessary to deepen economic cooperation and increase investments in infrastructure, education and culture.

He called for the creation of more opportunities for young people so that they can build the future in their countries.

"Open issues with neighbors, nationalist rhetoric, all affect the climate of trust. Even Albanians and Macedonians know the expression: in the Balkans, more politics is produced than is consumed."

We have an obligation to make the future more peaceful. Albania and North Macedonia are and will remain neighbors. Let's deepen economic cooperation, invest in infrastructure, education and culture.

"Let's create more opportunities for young people to create their own paths here, in our countries. We have proven that we know how to stand together in difficult times,"  said Begaj.
