The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has reacted after Prime Minister Edi Rama's visit to Kosovo, describing it as harmful to the country's interests and to the process against former political leaders who are in the Special Court in The Hague.
Berisha stated that Rama, through public positions and previous actions, has violated the sovereignty and political direction of Kosovo.
He accused the Prime Minister of exerting pressure on Kosovo institutions to approve the law related to the Special Court, which he considered problematic in relation to international standards.
According to him, Rama's positions in international forums, including the Council of Europe, have negatively affected the situation of former Kosovo leaders who are facing justice in The Hague.
Berisha stressed that rhetoric against countries that fund the court does not help the accused and creates an unfavorable climate for them.
He reiterated his stance against the charges brought by the Hague Prosecutor's Office, which he described as unfounded, and demanded that the trial be conducted based on the law and evidence.
In conclusion, Berisha condemned Rama's visit to Pristina and expressed his belief that Kosovo's former political leaders deserve a fair trial and a decision in accordance with international law.
Berisha: Dear friends, today, on the eve of independence, Edi Rama made a quick visit to Kosovo. On this occasion, I would like to express to the citizens of Kosovo my opinion that, today in Kosovo, there was a fierce enemy of Kosovo, of freedom, of the dignity of the citizens of Kosovo.
I make this statement today, because with irrefutable evidence, with well-known acts, Edi Rama, whether at private tables or in public acts, has demonstrated the same hostility, the same cruelty towards Kosovo, its sovereignty and leadership.
Today he ran to declare support for the former political leadership of Kosovo who is in The Hague.
I have denounced and publicly denounce the pretension of The Hague prosecutors, as a pamphlet of Serbian ultranationalist propaganda against the former political leaders of Kosovo and its Liberation War.
I have said and I repeat, that they have been loyal allies, loyal to the North Atlantic Alliance on the ground, but I am convinced that they are in The Hague, one of the reasons is Edi Rama himself with his shameful bargains he made in Belgrade for Kosovo.
I also emphasize that with his political hysteria trying to present himself as a patriot, in the Council of Europe, he, I tell you, did the greatest damage to the former political leaders of Kosovo in The Hague.
But even today, in his hysteria, by anathematizing the democratic countries that finance the Hague Tribunal, I guarantee the KLA fighters, veterans, families, that he does not help the accused at all, the former political leadership in the Hague Tribunal. On the contrary, he only creates a climate that they do not deserve. Otherwise, I want to say that this fierce enemy is the main man of maximum pressure on the then political leadership of Kosovo to vote on the law of the Kosovo Tribunal in The Hague. A law which, in reality, has unacceptable norms and standards, in relation to international law.
Once again, I condemn this visit as an act of hypocrisy by a fierce enemy that Kosovo had in Tirana, just like Enver Hoxha, from 2013 until today.
I express my conviction that the former political leaders of Kosovo in The Hague have made significant contributions to protecting thousands of lives of Kosovo citizens from the Serbian genocide. They have made very important contributions to protecting hundreds of thousands of lives of Serbian citizens in Kosovo from retaliation for their involvement in the terrible anti-Albanian genocide. I call on the judges in The Hague to judge on the basis of justice, the law and to declare the innocence of the political leaders in Kosovo.
