Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has not fallen prey to the political games of his counterpart from Tirana. Edi Rama, after the parliamentary group meeting, urgently left for Kosovo, on a suddenly announced visit.
Even though Kosovo's Independence Day is tomorrow, Rama left today to meet Vjosa Osmani and Albin Kurti, at a time when the final steps of the trial for the former KLA leaders are taking place in The Hague. During the promotion of the book "When Silence Speaks", by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Shala, Rama tried to portray himself as the "Father of the Nation" and that he feels great pity for Thaçi and his friends.
After this event, he went to meet Albin Kurti, who received him with a state ceremony. Rama's stance was awaited with great interest, as relations between the two have not been so friendly. Rama has not missed an opportunity to attack or provoke Albin Kurti. But the latter seems to have ruined the "Global Leader"'s plans, as he sent him off without a press conference.
It was known that Rama, at that conference, if it were held, would try to show himself more sympathetic to the KLA leaders. He would also not spare provocations towards Kurti. But according to Kosovo media, after the nearly hour-long meeting in the office with Kurti, Rama was seen leaving and journalists were not called for a press conference at all. In such a meeting, press conferences are part of the protocols and are not easily avoided.
It was Kurti himself who then reacted on social media, contenting himself with a short post.
" I welcomed the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama. We discussed the bilateral agreements we have and areas where we can increase them, the new opportunities and how to best use them, as well as the common challenges and ways to overcome them as easily as possible. With our renewed mandates, through intergovernmental and interstate cooperation, let us serve even more citizens in both republics and our entire nation ," Kurti wrote. Rama himself has not yet made any posts about this meeting.
If we also look at the reception ceremony, it seems that the relations between them are cold. Both have remained sullen. Rama has been trying to play the role of the protagonist for years, criticizing Kosovo's behavior, attacking Kurti, etc. In 2023, Rama even went to Prime Minister Kurti, and the latter refused to meet him, proving how strained the relations were.
