The Together Movement has presented a new political platform, which it describes as a concrete step towards addressing what it calls the “legitimacy crisis” and “state capture” in Albania. The platform was presented at a meeting with members and supporters of the political force and includes a series of proposals in the field of institutional and legal reform.
According to representatives of the Joint Movement, the package aims at structural interventions to strengthen the fight against corruption and limit the influence of organized crime in politics and the economy.
At the center of the platform is a proposal for legal changes and amendments, including interventions in the Criminal Code. The Together Movement proposes that the penalties for criminal offenses of corruption be toughened, providing for up to 20 years in prison in certain cases.
The MP of this political force, Redi Muçi, stated that the initiative aims not only to highlight the problems, but also to offer concrete solutions.
" The corruption scandals that have caught the heads of institutions and the head of government and what is often discussed in public debates is the need to draft a platform to get out of the crisis. What we are trying to do is precisely the presentation of a platform not simply as a statement of the problem, but also as structural interventions, legal changes to get where we need to be ," said Muçi.
He emphasized that the fight against corruption must be accompanied by preventive measures and concrete legal interventions, mentioning the need to review the provisions of the Criminal Code.
In his statement, Muçi also expressed a critical stance towards proposals for the creation of a caretaker government as a solution to guarantee free and fair elections.
According to him, a co-government between the Democratic Party and the Socialist Party, even under the guise of a technical government, would not bring the required change.
" To say that this co-government will again bring free and fair elections is logical nonsense ," he declared.
