A statement made by DP leader Sali Berisha that the EU ambassador uses his sexual orientation to impose laws in Albania has caused strong debates today. This statement has brought many reactions, as it has been considered sexual discrimination. A little while ago Berisha spoke to the media, where he stated that he had no intention of insulting the ambassador, who himself has admitted that he is homosexual. However, he was insulted and if he feels offended he will apologize.
-Do you have an apology for the ambassador?
Berisha: Now, the simplest thing for me is to apologize. But, if Ambassador Gonzato, a statement made public by himself, that I was married and my little son is thirty-one years old, and now I am, I live with a partner or I am married to a man, and this statement was used by me absolutely, without any intention of insult, because I have, I am the author of a law that has definitively put an end to any form of discrimination, then and I told him here that he himself was binary and then changed his mind. I do not believe that this is, if I repeat the statement that he himself made, I do not know what kind of insult. I had not done any investigation into his life, absolutely. Nor do I deal with the life of any person. But I heard him, he said it himself and I said that he made this statement. How this is an insult, I do not understand, I do not conceive of it. It is, I used a statement, something that he said himself. But if he considers this an insult, then it is, I will certainly, I will reconsider my intention, I apologize, I have no, no hesitation, but this was not an insult to him. This does not constitute an insult.
