Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, during a meeting with sympathizers in Lezhë, stated that the democrats have never faced a fiercer enemy than Edi Rama.
Berisha stated that Rama says that 'you are not democrats, just like the Nazis who took away the names of the Jews and gave them a number. And will tell them that you are not democrats, but you are Lulzim. That I have the lock in my pocket'.
"I am coming to this meeting today at a critical moment of the existence of Albanian democracy, at a critical moment of the existence of the Albanian opposition, but at a crucial moment of its mission, of saving Albanian democracy and Albania.
Here I have received a written speech, but I will speak to you with the words of the heart and not of the letter.
We have undeserved 10 years, this does not mean that we did not deserve to be in the opposition, no. We ruled for 8 years, the sovereign thought that we should go to the opposition.
We respected the decision of the sovereign and committed ourselves in accordance with our ideals as a moral power of the country to make an opposition.
We surrendered power, in some aspects with epoch-making achievements. In the sense that from the poorest, poorest citizens of the Balkans, from the nation to the group of nations with the lowest income in the world, we came out among the nations with upper middle income.
We lined up in the Balkans as the citizens with the highest salaries. And a series of very important transformations took place in those years.
Albania joined NATO. Albania transformed the infrastructure, received the recommendation of the Commission for the status of the candidate country.
So, we democrats, when we came out in opposition, we came out proving with deeds that we served the country. We came out with the intention of serving them again as opposition.
10 years have been years of greatest exhaustion for you, the opposition people.
10 years, the basic rules of democracy, where the government and the opposition compete under normal conditions with their alternatives, disappeared.
When Edi Rama came to power, I told him in the parliament: sir, your ties to crime are known to the whole world, they are universally known, but the Albanians amnestied you because they voted for you. And now everything will be determined by the fate of the country, of democracy, what you will do with these connections. You will cut them with the scissors of the law, the country will move. Albania will move forward.
But if he uses power to strengthen those ties, to extend their power over the citizens, this will be a national disaster. And the second happened.
You witness that your vote is no longer valid for the rotation. But why? Because he is sworn not to hand over power at any cost.
He has demonstrated no less hatred for the Jews than the Nazis. He will tell you, democrats, who stood up with great sacrifices, with courage and bravery, took Albania on your shoulders, joined NATO, brought it out of the depths of misery and poverty and was walking in a normal development path.
He will tell you that you are not democrats, just like the Nazis who took away the names of the Jews and gave them a number. And will tell them that you are not democrats, but you are Lulzim. That I have the lock in my pocket.
Democrats and democrats, in the entire history from the day of the foundation until today, we do not face a more ferocious, more inhumane enemy than Edi Rama.
It is our duty, our obligation to say to the enemy, enemy and to stand by the enemy as an enemy", said Berisha.
