In a conversation with citizens held on social networks, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, stated that Prime Minister Edi Rama is facing a strong reaction from European chancelleries for his political and institutional positions.
According to Berisha, the government's actions have brought about an unusual situation in relations between Albania and the European Union. He said that European decision-making centers are considering punitive measures that, according to him, have never been taken against the country before during the integration process.
Berisha linked this development to what he described as constitutional and legal violations by the government, which, according to him, have seriously jeopardized Albania's European path. He cited the use of the Constitutional Court as a shield to keep Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku in office, calling this an unconstitutional act.
The DP leader emphasized that the reaction of international partners and the European Commission has been clear and contrary to the government's positions. He stated that this reaction shows, in his opinion, the Prime Minister's lack of commitment to the interests of citizens and the country's European future.
In this context, Berisha praised the opposition protests as a key factor in raising the international community's awareness of the political and institutional situation in Albania. He said that these protests have directly influenced pushing international actors towards considering punitive measures against the government.
According to Berisha, recent developments show that the government's actions have produced direct consequences in relations with the European Union, while international pressure is expected to materialize in concrete decisions in the future.
