The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, declared that Prime Minister Edi Rama will use the majority of his mandates in the Assembly to prevent the vote to lift the immunity of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.
At the start of the DP parliamentary group meeting, Berisha accused the prime minister of trying to protect himself and the government from justice, describing the expected decision as a blow to the judicial power.
According to him, this situation could also have consequences for Albania's path to European integration.
"We gather one day before the head of the criminal organization Edi Rama uses his criminal mandates as bayonets against every Albanian. We gather at a time when, in order to protect his skin, to protect the crimes he has committed, he decides to close the doors of Albanian justice. He establishes the de facto annihilation of the judicial power. He establishes the complete shield of the criminal majority or the criminal mandates for his and the government's thefts. He establishes it in the framework of a darker scenario, the scenario of Albania's separation from the EU process, after extraordinary efforts made over the years for a dream of Albanians. A dream of our rebirthers. Now a pilgrim Qamil appears, a bandit, without honor or flag, who just a few months ago was shouting for a European passport, while now he has been issued a Belgrade passport. This is a serious act," Berisha said.
