"Berisha should leave as leader of the DP in 2026", Xhaferri 'regrets': It is not a rebellion, the decision is up to him

Democratic MP Besard Xhaferri has described the debate created after his statement that if elections are not repeated, Berisha should step down as leader of the Democratic Party in 2026 as an artificial debate.

In "Off the Record" on A2 CNN, he explained that there is no rebellion and that his statement was not received as a debate or an earthquake by Sali Berisha, but he admitted that there were reactions and criticisms which he clarified.

"I was not in Albania and I did not want to give any importance to that debate. I think it was an artificial debate that a democratic party where debate is the most normal thing and we have shown this throughout our 25-year history does not have to have any kind of debate or earthquake."

Even the leader of the DP did not receive it as a debate or as an earthquake. They contacted me, I explained and clarified, and there was no anger. Criticism and attacks are the most normal thing.

"The debate was created out of nowhere. There is no rebellion, I will work tirelessly with President Sali Berisha to overthrow Edi Rama," said the Democratic MP, who in the May 11 elections received the mandate from the closed list.

Xhaferri emphasizes that Berisha's re-nomination for the leadership of the DP is his decision and that of the party's institutions, while emphasizing that the main topic should be the electoral farce, which according to him should become a global and national cause with the aim of repeating the elections.

"Then the decision is his and the party institutions' and there is no opinion that comes out on the party institutions and membership. It is an opinion that I also expressed on May 13. We must focus on the electoral farce to make it a global and national cause to repeat the elections and save Albania from this regime. Then the reelection not only of the leader of the DP and the entire DP leadership should be a secondary and tertiary topic. The primary topic is the electoral farce of redoing the elections in Albania after the OSCE report proved that it is an electoral farce, we will make it a global cause. The reelection of Mr. Berisha is his decision and that of the DP membership."
