Socialist Party MP Erion Braçe has reacted from the Parliament podium regarding the investigations into fraudulent Call Centers in Albania, following the recent crackdown on a network by the authorities.
In his speech, Brace emphasized that this activity is not a new phenomenon and has long been the focus of institutions.
"The activity of Call Centers or Forex here is an early activity. Precisely because it has been like this, I have been forced in the Economy Committee to seek explanations from the authorities and above all from the AFSA, the authority for the prevention of money laundering and the State Police," said Braçe.
He announced that he had previously requested a coordinated inter-institutional commitment to combat this phenomenon.
"I have requested to hold a joint session including the AFSA, Taxes, State Police and the Cybercrime sector, to crack down on this phenomenon in the territory of Albania," he said.
According to him, the responsibility for these activities is not state, but individual.
"I say with all my heart that this is not a state crime, but of individual persons who engage in this fraud of European citizens from the territory of Albania."
Brace called for stronger intervention by law enforcement agencies, warning of the consequences for the country's reputation.
"What must be strongly demanded is that law enforcement agencies deal with this phenomenon and crack down on it, because it shames and destroys Albania's image in relation to EU citizens, who have been generous to this country since 1991," said the MP.
Finally, he also criticized the way these cases were publicly handled.
"The way the events are told here is also abusive, a story worthy of Hollywood, which has made films about this phenomenon. I have no intention of dealing with films. In this room, I will deal with the facts from beginning to end," declared Brace.
