Strong debates in the Parliament hall about yesterday's situation, when the security measures against Mayor Erion Veliaj were being assessed.
The leader of the Democratic Party group, Gazment Bardhi, accused the Minister of Interior and the State and Tirana Police of inaction in yesterday's gathering at SPAK by Tirana Municipality employees. Bardhi called the directors of the municipality "scoundrels", while demanding measures against the leaders of the Police.
"We don't know the name of the Minister of Interior, we know that he was appointed by the gangs. But I want to denounce yesterday's precedent where a crowd occupied the SPAK premises and there was no police for the illegal gathering, the lack of police there, with a group of people filmed and identified, the directors of the Tirana municipality ordering administration employees to come out in support of a person accused of stealing millions of euros. Not only was there no action taken for the illegal gathering and the lack of police by not acting, but the transfer of the person arrested for corruption to be sent to detention was also prevented," he said.
He further demanded measures against them.
"Measures must be taken from the director of the State Police and down, this has never happened, these people are paid with the taxes of the citizens of Tirana. We have not heard of any criminal proceedings against the thugs, thieves, directors of the Municipality of Tirana for the illegal protest and the blockade, and no measures against these people who committed the violation and blocked the streets of Tirana for hours," he said.
Minister Ervin Hoxha responded by denying that the Police did not act after the unannounced gathering of the mayor's supporters.
"It is not true, yesterday sympathizers immediately gathered at SPAK to support the mayor. We are not in the conditions of a protest announcement, but in the conditions where these sympathizers wanted to be present at the decision-making. When they gathered, the Police forces were also sent there until the end of the decision. It is true that there was a blockage due to the immediate gathering, but it is not true that the State Police did not take measures, but went to secure the perimeter of SPAK. Immediately after the gathering, police officers went. And to emphasize, there was no incident yesterday, and I emphasize no damage during that gathering and no violation," the minister replied.
