The Member of the Greek Parliament, Vassilios Giogiacas, conveyed to the National Assembly of the Democratic Party the greetings of the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the New Democracy party, praising the process of renewal of the largest opposition force in Albania. The National Assembly of the DP is expected to approve statutory changes and introduce the new members of the National Council, within the framework of the reform of the party's leadership structures.
In his speech, Giogiacakas described the Assembly as a political choice in the function of democratic participation and modernization of the party.
Giogiakas also stressed Greece's continued support for Albania's European integration, appreciating the progress in negotiations with the European Union. According to him, judicial reforms, transparency, the fight against corruption and the guarantee of free elections remain key elements for the country's European path.
"Honorable Mr. Chairman, honorable friends of the Democratic Party of Albania, ladies and gentlemen.
It is a special honor to be here with you today in Tirana, at the National Assembly of the Democratic Party. Allow me, first of all, to convey to you the heartfelt greetings of the New Democracy party and of its chairman and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
This assembly represents a conscious political choice for greater democratic participation. Across the spectrum of right-wing and center-right parties, there is a call to engage with the younger generation, associating public responsibility with reform and institutional credibility, with innovation and cooperation, and with an orientation towards European integration.
Your efforts to organize structures, to modernize political communication and to strengthen citizen engagement move precisely in this direction. As members of the great democratic family, we share common principles. These are the commitment to political pluralism, the rule of law, independent institutions and accountability. These principles are the foundation of stability, prosperity and social cohesion in Southeastern Europe.
Greece has consistently supported Albania's European perspective. We have supported the progress in the accession process towards the European Union, in particular the advancement of negotiations in key chapters. These developments confirm that Albania's European future remains realistic and achievable, giving us the opportunity to continue working sustainably on the development of institutions and the achievement of a broad democratic consensus.
At the same time, the European path is not just a technical process, but is fundamentally a process of democratic consolidation and institutional maturity. In certain areas, such as the independence of the judiciary, transparency, the fight against corruption and the strengthening of institutions in a system of checks and balances, these are essential pillars for any candidate country aspiring to become a member of the European family.
In this regard, it is important that democratic parties continue to support the process, and institutional integrity must remain at the core of democratic governance.
Free and fair elections are essential pillars of any democratic process and democratic maturity. They demonstrate how important it is to gain public trust and ensure the independence of the administration.
Equally important is the protection of the role of the opposition in any parliamentary democracy, including the right to political expression and peaceful participation in democratic processes.
The fundamental rights process and European standards constitute the main path for the alignment of all indicators, in order to ensure compliance with EU legislation.
In this regard, the rights of the Greek minority in Albania continue to remain an important issue for Greece and the EU. Respect for the right to property, the right to education and full participation in local public life constitute an essential part of the framework of European values. Dear friends, in the context of increasing uncertainties in the global environment, stability in South-Eastern Europe, democratic sustainability and a clear European horizon make us understand that you deeply believe in European and democratic values, which play an essential role in safeguarding the future.
I would like to congratulate the Democratic Party of Albania on this new chapter of renewal and modernization. I wish you much success in your efforts for this far-sighted vision for the future of Albania, a future based on democratic reforms, institutional credibility, and European integration.
"Let me once again convey to you the congratulations of the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic and the Chairman of New Democracy, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and wish you successful work. We support the strengthening of the ties between our parties, our peoples and our countries. Thank you once again for the warm hospitality. Thank you very much," he said.
