After demanding from the Tirana Municipal Council the dismissal of Erion Veliaj and the announcement of new elections for the capital's municipality, Edi Rama has proposed Ogerta Manastirliu as a candidate for mayor.
Manastirliu currently holds the position of Minister of Education, but Rama's decision seems to have caught her by surprise.
The news of the candidacy, which was announced at the SP Assembly, was unexpected for everyone. Rama also said this, considering it an "unexpected bomb."
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister expressed his support for Manastirliu and said that he is the appropriate figure to lead the Municipality of Tirana.
"I know that you will not easily forgive me in a longer time, perhaps this time for this unannounced bomb, but Albania needs Tirana like a train for a locomotive. Therefore, the Socialist Party is no longer waiting to put the locomotive in motion at its highest pace, by appointing the right driver in the driving cabin. You and everyone must trust me. We do not have to look for a more suitable person. It is your turn to lead Tirana with the ambition, the calmness that characterizes you in all challenging tasks. While our task is to support you by standing in line behind you", said Prime Minister Edi Rama.
