Prime Minister Edi Rama, at the launch of the Socialist Party Assembly, spoke about the Justice Reform, emphasizing that he has "no regrets about the freedom and independence we have given to justice."
"In the new mandate, we will have to immediately address the emergency created in Tirana's leadership. I want to say as clearly as possible what I believe we should all share together about justice and our relationship with it. We as the Socialist Party have never entered into an issue of justice, especially when justice has not fully spoken its word. We have not become the advocate for our people even when it may not seem fair to us. We have no regrets about the freedom and independence that we have given to justice through the Justice Reform. Through the reform, we have consciously removed the hands of the executive from any process of selecting or dismissing prosecutors or judges. We have left it to the judicial power to govern its own affairs through the bodies provided for by the Justice Reform. Therefore, whoever speaks of our seizure of justice either does not know what they are talking about or does not want to accept the very great truth of an epochal change for a country where there has never been independence of prosecutors or judges from any political power," said Rama.
Prime Minister Rama focused on justice issues, speaking critically of judges and prosecutors who, according to him, "maintain narrow-mindedness and a lack of integrity within their ranks."
"We have not and will never become the lawyer of anyone who is investigated or detained by justice, whether this is right or not. We will have no regrets about the freedom and independence that we have given to justice with the Justice Reform and the historic withdrawal of majority power from the field of judicial power," said Rama.
