Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha spoke about the political developments in the country as well as the meeting held with 43 democratic deputies.
Invited to Syri TV, Berisha was asked about the joint meeting of opposition MPs, held on September 5. He stated that there was a split in the DP, but never a final split, especially with the group of deputies led by Gazment Bardhi.
Journalist: After almost 2 years, a meeting of the parliamentary group of the DP is not for internal problems, but to face Edi Rama. 2 years of parliament and only after 2 years, a meeting whose object is the battle with Edi Rama's regime.
Berisha:I think the meeting was an important development, it was a natural step in the right direction and important in several respects. This meeting called by Gazment Bardhi, overcomes the problem, which existed, we cannot say that it did not exist, but overcomes this problem for much bigger goals and objectives. I want to express here to be correct, the deputies who are led by Gazment Bardhi have the indisputable merit which I have expressed repeatedly because they accepted the primaries and the candidates of the primaries. With this act, they proved their support for freedom, the free vote in the heart of the DP. I have said it since then and I say it again, that this programmatic act on the foundations of the DP was a great contribution and investment that they made. Undoubtedly, there were contradictions, problems, but as a whole, those deputies that you saw gathered together, plus some others who were not and others who may join, are DP deputies, and this was a very positive development. You posed the problem of what will be done in the future? The meetings will continue in order to give answers to all the problems waiting to be solved, but with this good will, degree of responsibility and readiness.
Journalist: After the clashes within the DP, there are two processes for the merger. One is the human process and the other political. The issue of human process seems to have been overcome. Now is the moment of the political process. In your 30 or so years of political history, you have been willing to accept reunions with anyone who has run away from you so that individual or group of individuals have been willing to face the political opponent. I'm starting in 2001 with the political groups that are probably the toughest on you since 1997, that have ganged up on you. In 2005, with the grand opening. You are ready even after the famous January 8 to accept anyone who is ready to face Edi Rama's regime. This is due to the fact that you are not afraid of internal competition, or that the only goal is to unite anyone against Edi Rama.
Berisha:I have such an explanation. First, there are no personal feelings in politics, but there are political interests and principles. I have kept this throughout my career and I call it the fairest attitude. Second, you should never kick someone else's contribution. All those you assumed or said, they have been people with contributions to DP, among them people with basic contributions and in a way they have returned to their contributions, rightly so. Thirdly, now we come to the concrete case. In this particular case, there was not, so to speak, a final crack. There was a rift, this cannot be denied, but never a final rift, especially with the group that leads Gazment Bardhi and which is an important group of deputies, as the chairman of the parliamentary group, but also the other deputies, for Sali Berisha and the DP, there are two people who, as clear as crystal, have made themselves available and at the service of Edi Rama, and I say with the utmost conviction that it is the same as inviting Taulant Balla to the coalition. This can not happen. Çimi, an opposition controlled by Edi Ramë, is a national disaster.
Journalist: They were ministers in the government of Nano or Meta, if I'm not mistaken, and you accepted it in 2001, Preç Zogajn... Yes, Lufter Xhuvelin...
Berisha: Preç Zogaj is one of the founders of the DP. Of course with his special concepts, but I could not deny Preç Zogaj the contribution he has to the foundations of this party.
