The Democratic Party has appealed the decision of the Central Election Commission to approve the preliminary results of the May 11 elections for the Kukës region.
The Democratic Party has requested the invalidation of the results and a repeat of the elections in the entire Kukës district. Despite the victory in this district, where the DP won 2 mandates and the SP 1 mandate, the Democrats have contested the results.
Through its legal representative, Franci Nuri, the DP has filed a request with the CEC to declare the May 11 elections invalid.
The appeal comes after the opposition declared that it would not recognize the overall election results, calling them an "electoral farce." The DP claims that it has no facts and evidence of problems during the campaign, such as the use of state assets for the purpose of the elections, vote buying and selling, or irregularities with the diaspora vote.
In the May 11 elections, the Socialist Party won a fourth term, securing a full 83 seats in the Albanian Parliament. While the Democratic Party received 50 seats.
