The Democratic Party has not yet released a name for the race for the new mayor of Tirana.
Despite the fact that on Saturday, the DP began negotiations with opposition forces for a possible candidate, the only thing that seems to have been agreed upon is the possibility of nominating someone from civil society.
Agron Duka, the leader of the PAA, claimed that a non-political figure could make the battle for the Municipality of Tirana stronger and attract more votes from citizens.
Despite the idea of a name from civil society, Duka explains that political figures have not been excluded from this competition.
"In principle, it is thought that a candidacy should be found that unites all opposition forces, and it could be from civil society. This does not mean that political names are excluded. But, a unifying candidacy, so we can have an opportunity to have a strong battle and to get closer in numbers ," he said.
But in addition to the official meeting held on Saturday, the Duke says he had an informal conversation with Adriatik Lapaj, at a bar, where Fatmir Mediu was also present. He said that there is agreement on a figure outside the political order.
"There is no other logic, except that the opposition must unite. How can it unite otherwise? With a figure that is preferred by all opposition forces. For example, in addition to that meeting, we also had a coffee with Lapaj. I communicated with Dash Shehaj yesterday. Mediu and I were there (at a coffee with Lapaj). They don't say no, but they say that there is a figure that can unite us, and if he is, in principle, above the political forces, of course we can come out and support him ," he said.
What could be a suitable name for the Duke? According to him, it could be Gjergj Bojaxhi.
"One such person could be Gjergj Bojaxhi. Perhaps, such a figure, not fully agreed, 100%, either with the DP, etc., but still with a right-wing profile," he said.
Duka adds that because of his right-wing principles, Bojaxhi can attract the votes of the Democratic Party, including that gray layer.
"I like this one, because it has a profile, it is that anti-establishment expression, as a nature it can attract the gray layer. It is not 100% PD, but it can attract the PD vote, because it has been on the right ," Duka said for "Tv Klan".
