DP MPs, members of the Mandates and Immunity Council in the Albanian Parliament, held a meeting today, without the presence of SP MPs, regarding SPAK's request for the imposition of security measures against Deputy Prime Minister, Belinda Balluku.
Gazment Bardhi, who chaired this meeting, accused the Parliament and Prime Minister Edi Rama of obstructing justice by delaying decision-making on SPAK's request.
From the meeting where only 5 members of the DP were present, Bardhi said that the SP deputies are allowing Edi Rama to control the investigations.
"The majority colleagues, who represent crime in the Assembly, are in hiding. They did not show up at the meeting called by 5 members. Obstruction of justice, on Rama's political orders, is the most serious act that this Assembly has committed during these years of democracy. It is not possible for a prime minister to order the Assembly of Albania not to convene the Council of Mandates and to exert pressure on the Constitutional Court.
"Anyone who wants to avoid arrest is trying to drag out the case. There is no person in the world who goes to prison willingly," said Bardhi.
According to the head of the DP Parliamentary Group, the request submitted by SPAK to the Assembly has no connection with the decision that the Constitutional Court is expected to make on January 22, regarding the suspension of Belinda Balluku from government functions.
At a meeting held a few days ago, the Council for Mandates and Immunity decided to make available to the members of this forum, but also to the legal defenders of Deputy Prime Minister Balluku, the evidence deposited by SPAK, on which the request for the assignment of a security measure is based. The Council did not set a date for when the next meeting could be held, while the Parliament has entered the holiday phase on the occasion of the end-of-year holidays.
