The Mandates Council closes without setting a date for the next meeting...
After more than 5 hours of discussions and debates, the meeting of the Council of Mandates and Immunity has concluded, regarding the request of the Special Prosecution Office to lift the immunity of MP, Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.
SPAK has taken the defendant and requested the lifting of immunity in order to impose an arrest measure against her, either in prison or house arrest. But today's meeting was tense, as the SP and DP did not agree on the way it was organized, as well as on access to evidence.
After much debate, it is learned that the meeting has ended, while there is no date for the next meeting.
The Democratic Party wants the next meeting to be held on December 22. On the other hand, the Socialist Party has suggested that the meeting be held in January.
On the other hand, Balluk's lawyer has requested 3 weeks to familiarize himself with the investigative materials. Meanwhile, SPAK requests that the procedure not be delayed and take place within the next 3 to 5 days.
Due to the disagreement, it was decided to have a 20-minute break and after the meeting resumed, the Speaker of the Assembly Niko Peleshi decided to close the discussions, while saying that the date for the next meeting would be announced in the coming days.
After the meeting, the head of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, spoke, stating that the meeting could not be closed without announcing a date for the next meeting. He stated that the SP is trying to postpone the issue until January. He stated that the DP itself will request that the Mandates Council meet on Monday or Tuesday. He also said that there will be a request for an extraordinary parliamentary session.
