Mandates Council

The Democratic Party demands that the next meeting of the Mandates Council on the case of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku be held on December 22. On the other hand, the Socialist Party is trying to postpone this meeting to January, while SPAK demands that the procedure not be delayed and take place within the next 3 to 5 days. Meanwhile, the SP has requested a 20-minute break to decide what will happen.

The development comes after SPAK's request to lift Balluk's immunity, which is allegedly involved in a file with elements of corruption and witness intimidation. While the Special Prosecution Office is seeking to expedite the procedure, Balluk's lawyer has requested 3 weeks to familiarize himself with the investigative materials. The Socialists have lined up alongside Balluk's defense, without setting a clear deadline for its preparation.

The prosecutor in the case, Dritan Prençi, and the other SPAK prosecutor have stated that sufficient time is 3 to 5 days.

The new head of SPAK, Klodian Braho, did not set a concrete deadline for the preparation of the lawyer, leaving room for political interpretation. So far, a date for the next meeting of the Mandates Council has not yet been set.
