Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha spoke about the primaries process. He said that the process was conducted in consultation with the DP membership, adding that their preferences were taken into account in compiling the candidate lists for May 11.
"We did very well to hold the primaries because members were asked about their preferences and in general they were taken into account. Primaries that take place within the party are a consultation. There was some bickering and dissatisfaction, but overall, the most voted candidates were placed on the closed lists, with minor exceptions," said Berisha.
Berisha also focused on Jorida Tabaku and Dhurata Çupi, two names that caused a stir due to their non-inclusion in the closed lists of the DP, explaining the decision made.
"Tabaku is in the open because the 4 women on the Tirana list are Ex Officio, Jozefina Topalli, Albana Vokshi, Ms. Xhixho who is appointed by PL and Mesila Doda who is appointed by PDIU.
So, one less voted than Tabaku is not included to be considered as a lack of appreciation. Tabaku and Çupi are ladies with extraordinary contributions. The same assessment is also for Mrs. Zhulali. The seats were taken by Ex OFFICIO" , Berisha said for "News 24".
