Former President Bamir Topi has commented on the arrest of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, expressing that he believes in the separation of powers and respect for the judicial process.
"When it comes to justice issues, I find it difficult to interfere because I don't have the facts. I am aware of the separation of powers that must function. There is a SPAK decision, but there is also a court. The case is in process and there is a legal defense that must protect the accused," Topi declared.
He also expressed concern about the impact of this issue on Veliaj's private and family life. "When the issue affects the entire family situation, I don't like it at all. Politics is politics, but we cannot separate ourselves from human relationships," he said.
In the end, the former president emphasized the importance of a fair and transparent process, wishing that everything will end in accordance with the law. "I wish that everything goes well for the Veliaj family, that justice will be served and there will be justice," he concluded when invited to the show "This Week" on News24.
