Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted after the Constitutional Court's decision that declared the government's closure of the TikTok platform unconstitutional. In his public reaction, Rama mocked the court's position, suggesting that according to this interpretation, it appears that most Albanian parents and teachers were wrong when they requested the temporary suspension of the application.
According to the Prime Minister, the decision to temporarily close TikTok brought concrete results, as the company took additional measures to control and secure content on the platform. He emphasized that the reopening of the application was made after an understanding with the company and the changes it had undertaken.
"The Constitutional Court believes that 90% of Albanian parents and teachers were wrong when they demanded the closure of TIKTOK! Fortunately, we reopened TIKTOK thanks to the understanding we found in the company for the extra measures that were taken by it, precisely thanks to the closure, because if it were up to the Constitutional Court, it would not have been closed at all and the positive measures would not have been possible! Thanks to that closure today, parents and teachers can be a little more relieved, while thanks to this decision that I do not want to give its name, the slanderers can feel encouraged ," said Rama.
On the other hand, the Constitutional Court declared that the government's decision to block the platform violated freedom of expression and was contrary to the Constitution. According to the court's reasoning, the rights and freedoms of citizens can only be restricted by law and not by government decision.
The court emphasized that the TikTok application could not be blocked through a government decision, considering this measure unconstitutional.
