The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has demanded the resignation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, accusing him of a lack of transparency regarding the European integration process and the IBAR interim report, as well as for statements that he considers offensive to Albanians.
In a press conference, Berisha claimed that the minister had "publicly lied" about the progress of the integration process, stressing that the lack of information had also contributed to delays in important processes, including the failure to hold a planned intergovernmental conference.
"For the first time, the minister appeared yesterday in the Foreign Affairs Committee to deceive Albanians about IBAR. He appeared at a time when he should have either issued a statement, as his counterpart in Serbia, Macedonia or Montenegro does after every week they meet in Brussels, but they keep it secret. Others publish it every week. Here it doesn't. And he was reminded after over 2 months to go to the committee to deceive. IBAR was not voted on, he said, but of course it was not voted on because it was not voted on purpose because they refused to vote on IBAR," said Sali Berisha.
Berisha also focused on the minister's statements regarding Albanians in North Macedonia, calling them unacceptable and offensive, while demanding his resignation.
"The foreign minister should resign, arrogant and shameless. He did not apologize for his words and this is a unique case. Imagine what this man could do if he had more power. But if you made an insult in the Whatsapp group where all the ambassadors are, you apologize publicly to the Albanians of Macedonia and every Albanian, you have insulted every Albanian with that word. And you keep making sophistry, there is no morality in apologizing for doing this to protect the head of the criminal organization, his boss Edi Rama," Berisha declared.
