Prime Minister Edi Rama has called a meeting of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, which is expected to last 5 hours, and its focus is expected to be reports from the heads of the Parliamentary Committees, as well as some of the main reforms that are on the Parliament's agenda.
The meeting will take place at the Brigades Palace and is scheduled to start at 10:00, while closing is expected around 15:00.
Referring to the agenda made public by the Socialist Party, the main speech will be delivered by the Prime Minister, to be followed by the Speaker of the Assembly and the Chairman of the Parliamentary Group. Meanwhile, the heads of the Parliamentary Committees, or the deputy heads of these committees, in cases where they are led by the opposition, will present reports that will not last more than 10 minutes.
What draws attention is the fact that Rama seems to have timed each speaker, not allowing them to speak beyond 2 minutes.
The Parliamentary Group meeting precedes the start of the new session in the Albanian Parliament, which officially begins its work on January 19. The determination of an agenda for 12 months of the Parliament's activity is expected to be the center of attention, while two of the main reforms, the electoral and territorial reforms, also require cooperation with the opposition. But referring to the Prime Minister's previous statements, the socialists will not wait indefinitely for the democrats, which means that he may set 'red lines' regarding the time when these reforms will be approved.
This meeting can also be interpreted as another rift between the socialists, considering the fact that the Government has been hit by a series of scandals, led by the Prime Minister. Despite the fact that in many cases he has been justified by the 'pears' that others have eaten behind his back, the latest scandals being investigated by SPAK, refute this justification.
Today's meeting takes place a day before the Prime Minister convenes a meeting of mayors, a meeting where the focus is expected to be on the release of public spaces, but also the cleaning of the territory. Rama has not spared criticism on both of these issues, and even for the recent flood, he placed the main responsibility precisely on the waste that is dumped without criteria in the beds of streams or rivers.
