Socialist Party MP, Erion Braçe, held a question-and-answer session in the Parliament with the Minister of Agriculture, Andis Salla, regarding the issue of land grabbing and alienation in the areas of the Seman and Shkumbin rivers, in the territory of Lushnja and Divjaka.
In his first question, Braçe referred to a piece of land near the Seman River, near the village of Imshte in Bubullimë, Lushnja. He said that there are people who claim to take land from the river to turn it into private property.
The MP also stressed that the situation has become more problematic in recent months, as according to him the Seman River has overflowed its bed several times since November, not only due to rainfall, but also as a result of flows related to the Banja hydroelectric power plant.
"There are claims from time to time to take land from the riverbank to turn it into private property for the benefit of some individuals, excluding not only public institutions, but also the residents of the area. The history is long, it has been consumed for almost two years on both sides, both on the Shkumbin River and on the Seman River, with people who from time to time change each other, but who appear there to own land. Meanwhile, the situation has become difficult, when at least from last November until now the Seman River has overflowed its bed at least 5 times, not only due to weather conditions, but also due to the Banja hydroelectric power plant that Seman has and the flows. The essence is: the protection is not only of that land area, but of the lands on both sides of the river", said Braçe.
