The deputy of the Democratic Party, Flutura Açka, has commented on the situation within the DP and the recent tensions at the Presidency meeting that was held on the evening of June 6.
In an interview for Report TV, Açka called the departure of the parliamentary group from the Presidency meeting a hasty action. She said that there was a discussion, with different positions, about when the elections for the new head of the party would be held, but they should never have left.
Furthermore, the democratic deputy states that the discussion was about when and how the elections would be held, but it is already clear that after the elections, the time has come to elect a new leader.
"It was not as dramatic as it was described. Democrats are nervous, no one invited them to come there, some nervousness was added, not only because of the losses, but also because of the hasty statement from the group statement. The haste to gather the chiefs caused this spirit of incomprehension. A kind of nervousness rather than a deliberate thing to offend MPs. There was no conflict whether we will enter the elections or not. We are talking about a scattered opposition, we don't know where we have the democrats, we have become two parties, three parties. That we have to go to elections, that we have prolonged this is universally known. The central issue was when to do it, base-to-top, or top-to-bottom. How much would this restructuring process of the PD want? We were in the last moments to find this consensus. One of the leaders of the parliamentary group had an inaudible upset and then another group of deputies left. There was no reason to leave that part of the parliamentary group. Everyone gave their opinion. This moment of their escape, created this kind of imbalance of the meeting. But the fact that we have to go to elections is something that no one can question. Should we do it in September, December, this is something that should be discussed",said Acka.
Asked if he will support Lulzim Basha if he runs again for the leadership of the DP, Açka said that the central figures who have led the DP in recent years and intellectuals should enter the race.
"I don't know what will happen, I went to the meeting with the obligation of the process. I'm talking about the central figures who have led the DP in recent years and someone capable, an intellectual, to come and compete for the best to win. If the process is clean, I will vote on July 31. I have not yet voted for Basha, I voted for the opening of the process", she continued.
Meanwhile, as far as the DP merger is concerned, Açka said that they have a non-negotiable condition, that Berisha cannot be part of this process. The deputy also said that on January 8 there could be victims, therefore, according to her, Berisha cannot be the Albanian leader of the PD.
"There are always some heads, people want the power and the mind, the ways to communicate. On January 8, we could also have victims, it is not so easy to sit back. We will sit on equal terms. We have been in inferior conditions. There is a non-negotiable condition, Berisha cannot be part of this process, no matter how he is the leadership of this thing", declared Açka.
