The President of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, gave his arguments this Thursday in the preliminary session at the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime, opposing the accusations against him and describing them as unfounded.
In his submission before the GJKKO panel, Meta stated that the file against him is "based solely on lies and forgeries, prepared for almost 2 decades by the Sorosist sect, which has unconstitutionally seized the Justice Reform."
According to him, this situation is also reflected in the country's international ranking. " This is the reason why Albania has deteriorated by 11 places in the world ranking by Transparency International over the past year. Because the Head of the Criminal Organization has not only guaranteed his inviolability by capturing the judicial system, but has also used the latter as a political weapon against his political opponents ," Meta said at the start of his speech.
He described the case against him as a case with broader legal consequences, stating: " The Meta case is a case that will also enter European jurisprudence, as one of the most scandalous, where the standards of my kidnapping on October 21, 2024 are both the standards of the investigation itself, but also of detention for 16 months ."
During his speech, Meta mocked SPAK prosecutors, speaking of their "Kafkaesque imagination" and adding that in 2026 the articles of the Criminal Code for agitation and counter-revolutionary organization no longer exist.
In conclusion, he stated: " The only organization I belong to is that of March 2, 2020, a patriotic organization, a relentless defender of the national interest and determined to make any sacrifice that restores sovereignty to the Albanian people ."
