As the war in Iran has caused and continues to cause major economic damage around the globe, governments around the world have taken measures to ease the burden on their citizens. In Albania, the government filled its coffers from the extreme price increase, while the people were left at the mercy of fate with oil reaching a price of over 220 lek per liter, among the most expensive in the region and Europe.
And while the situation has somewhat stabilized and there is talk of reaching an agreement between the US and Iran, the Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, has become 'alive', who in a television interview announced that if there is an escalation of the war in Iran, direct support will be provided to the most vulnerable groups. At a time when oil is still sold for 200 lek/liter and the price per kilogram of some vegetables has reached 600 lek, our minister is talking about help in the event of an escalation.
"We cannot predict the end of the crisis, but institutions have evaluated the government's measures, starting from the Transparency Board, as well as the mechanism for reducing excise duty when the price of fuel exceeds a certain limit. Regarding their suggestions, we will have to keep inflation under monitoring and only in case we have an escalation of this situation, if we have a drastic increase in basket prices, will we intervene with direct support towards the most vulnerable groups ," emphasized the Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj for "A2CNN".
