The OSCE/ODIHR has published its final report on the May 11 elections, which also includes the epithets exchanged between Prime Minister Edi Rama and the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, during the campaign.
And while face-to-face debates were lacking during the campaign, the same cannot be said for those at a distance, where both Rama and Berisha heaped epithets on each other.
The report says the tone of the campaign was often confrontational, with personal attacks between the two main parties and their leaders. The report also highlights the epithets with which Rama addressed Berisha, such as "a swamp owl", while Berisha called Rama the "Antichrist".
“Mr. Rama repeatedly called his opponent, Mr. Berisha, a “marsh owl,” and other opposition leaders as “swamp creatures.”
Mr. Berisha, on the other hand, called Mr. Rama the “Antichrist,” a “monster,” and the government a “narcodictatorship.”
Agron Shehaj, leader of the Opportunities Party, accused Adriatik Lapaj, leader of the "Albania Becomes" Movement, of having benefited from internal agreements in his capacity as a lawyer.
In response to these accusations, according to media reports, Mr. Lapaj filed a defamation lawsuit,” the report states.
