"Elections are not held in times of war", Korreshi reveals which

Democratic Party MP Saimir Korreshi has commented on the process for electing the new party leader, which is expected to take place on May 23, emphasizing the importance of a real competition based on concrete support.

Invited to "News", he stated that the party's leadership cannot come as a result of imposed decisions, but must be the product of the membership vote.

"The leader of the DP cannot be appointed because one day you will have to face the votes," said the MP.

Korreshi also recalled his previous positions regarding developments within the party, emphasizing that he had initially supported the change. "I was for change, I had not aligned myself with Berisha... it seemed absurd what was happening," he added.

He stressed that the May 23 process is an important moment, even though, according to him, it is taking place at an inappropriate political time: "May 23 is open... but in a time of war, elections are not held."

Korreshi expressed skepticism about the alternatives in the race, implying that there is a lack of strong figures in the face of the current leadership: "If there were a race today, I don't see anyone else."

The MP emphasized that party leadership requires experience and merit, criticizing candidacies without political basis: "Being chairman you have to deserve it... you have to have some experience in power. I can't come out and say I'm better than Berisha because I got 1,000 likes on FB."

He emphasized that the leadership of the Democratic Party should not be the result of circumstances or improvisations, but of a process that guarantees legitimacy and real representation.
