Alesia Balliu has announced her candidacy for chair of the Democratic Party in the upcoming elections within this political force, presenting her race as an effort to promote change and openness in the party.
In her statements, Balliu emphasizes that she is not entering this race to replace Sali Berisha, but to give a clear message: "The Democratic Party needs competition and urgent democratization."
She recalls her early involvement in the party and the support she gave to Berisha's movement, adding that disappointment came after his return to the leadership of the DP. According to her, "the party has been bunkered down and is being used for power and family interests."
Balliu also accuses that the current leadership of the DP indirectly serves the majority, stating: "Sali Berisha is Edi Rama's most vulnerable element, which guarantees him continuity in power."
She further raises concerns about the way the party functions, stating that "the MPs blindly obey the chairman, without having a real vision for coming to power."
According to Balliu, other factors also influence the leadership of the party, while emphasizing: "Biological age is an element that affects the ability to lead and win elections."
She also criticizes the debate on statutory changes, calling it unacceptable to discuss the removal of the mayor after losing the elections: "It is unacceptable to question such a basic rule."
In conclusion, Balliu warns that, if the situation does not change, "the DP risks shrinking and remaining in the function of an individual and his family."
