The opposition leaves the Parliament, Tabaku: We will demand the expulsion of
Opposition MPs abandon plenary session

After leaving the hall, Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku announced that the DP will file a request on Friday for the expulsion of Socialist MP Taulant Balla.

Tabaku described Balla's behavior as unacceptable for a representative of the Assembly. She stated that the insult to MP Albana Vokshi constitutes a violation of the minimum standards of communication in parliament.

According to her, the situation requires an institutional response. Tabaku demanded immediate measures be taken against Balla, including a public condemnation and a request for an apology.

The DP MP said that the opposition considers this case a boundary that should not be crossed in parliamentary life and in the relationship between MPs.

Full statement:

Today, the chairman of the socialist group, Mr. Taulant Balla, has repeatedly insulted Ms. Albana Vokshi, not just once, and has forced the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party to leave the hall. Mr. Niko Peleshi, who has taken over to lead the Assembly, must lead it based on the regulations. There are no exceptions for the opposition, while the majority has the right to speak arrogantly, to offend and to violate dignity. Then we wonder why this hall of parliament no longer produces politics. This is the true face of governance. This is the face of governance with arrogance, which tramples on everyone.

This unacceptable behavior in the Assembly hall today should have received the deserved response from the Speaker of the Assembly. Mr. Niko Peleshi, for the umpteenth time, has failed to lead the session and provide security to the opposition MPs to operate there, firstly, and secondly, to condemn a behavior that, in my opinion, has never happened in parliament in so many years.

The opposition is in a situation where every space in the parliament has been narrowed. It is in a situation where it is not able to speak, it is not given the right to ask questions, it is not given the right to commissions of inquiry, but the insult crossed every red line. For this reason, I first call on all socialist ladies to condemn it. To condemn the behavior and insult of a colleague in this parliament.

Secondly, I call on all civil society organizations that this is the moment to speak up. This is the moment to condemn those who, from this chamber of parliament, display such intolerable, reprehensible behavior that no one would want to hear, neither in their homes nor for their families.

At the end of the day, each of us is also a person. It is a family. Mrs. Vokshi has two daughters at home, who attended the session. How would we feel if our children heard it? How would we feel if each of our colleagues experienced such violence, because this is verbal violence.

The parliamentary group of the Democratic Party will send tomorrow the request for the exclusion of Mr. Balla. We are sure that Mr. Peleshi will not be above the parties again. We are sure that no measures will be taken, but despite this, we will go to the end of this, just as we will go to the end of all the battles that the opposition has in this parliament.

We may disagree on many things in this parliament, but here we must agree that when a lady's dignity is violated, this is a red line that should not be crossed by anyone.

Thank you.

taulant balla.
