The head of the Special Prosecutor's Office against Corruption and Organized Crime, Altin Dumani, held an informal meeting with journalists today, where he was asked about the "McGonigal" file.
The head of SPAK for the McGonigal file, where the name of Prime Minister Edi Rama has appeared, said that it is being investigated.
Also for this investigation, he said that the complainant Gazment Bardhi has been asked to keep the investigative secret.
"We cannot give any information. We had a whistleblower (Gazment Bardhi), we informed him about everything he requested, but we asked him to sign on the preservation of investigative secrecy and not to make it public", said the head of SPAK.
On January 24, MP Gazment Bardhi filed a complaint with the SPAK for the initiation of investigations against Prime Minister Rama for what he described as a connection with the former high official of the FBI, Charles McGonigal, saying that the latter was bribed by Rama for fabricated DP lobbying with Russian money.
Bardhi has said in relation to this lawsuit that what Rama has done is the most serious act that has happened in these 30 years in the relations between the USA and Albania.
Former FBI agent Charles McGonigal was sentenced in Manhattan federal court to four years and two months in prison. The judge in the case said Mr McGonigal had harmed national security by repeatedly flouting sanctions aimed at putting economic pressure on Russia to achieve results without military force. He was also fined $40,000.
McGonigal and the "Albanian" file
At the beginning of next year, McGonigal will learn the decision of the justice for the "Albanian file".
In the Washington court, the one whom Prime Minister Edi Rama described as "my friend", is accused of concealing a payment of 225 thousand dollars from the Albanian-American, Agron Nezaj.
Earlier, McGonigal admitted all the charges related to Albania, including contacts with Prime Minister Edi Rama and his unofficial adviser to the Prime Minister of Albania.
Asked by the judge in the case, Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, whether on Nov. 25, he had "notified the Justice Department Attorney ... of a possible criminal investigation into a US citizen who had registered to lobby 'for a party that was not of Prime Minister Rama", McGonigal answered "Yes".
During the hearing, McGonigal admitted that he had developed connections and contacts in Albania through a friend of his, referring to Neza, with the intention of preparing the ground for him to pursue business and profit opportunities in Albania after he left the FBI.
