Democratic Party MP Agron Gjekmarkaj stated in Parliament that the floods recorded in Albania from north to south as a result of heavy rainfall occurred because the state does not invest.
Gjekmarkaj said that all the damages and misfortunes of citizens are and continue to be covered with empty promises.
" You are faced not only with the power of nature, but also with the weakness of a state on its knees and a government behind its senses. What happened in recent days is a stimulated disaster. It is a clear reflection of corruption and the failure of local and central government. A repeated story, where citizens suffer while those responsible hide behind empty promises, extorted money. The floods did not come unexpectedly. What happened is what happens when the government does not invest, but takes, when it does not listen, but speaks, when it does not assess the risk but dresses it with a new promise. In Lezha there is no local government, no ministry, no agriculture, defense, nor civil emergency. The embankments have been depreciated. One crack was closed in front of the cameras, another opened again 24 hours later.
There are rumors and public discussions about possible abuses and diversions for construction interests. Instead, there is no step to see any construction permit. Hydropower plants have been left to the mercy of fate, the Tale hydropower plant was left without energy when it was needed more than ever. Promises fall like rain and the rain never stops and it behaves as it pleases. Instead of a state response, citizens received some partially distributed food packages, minimal and insulting treatment for people who lose everything. There is no compensation or damage assessment.
All this shows that when the government builds propaganda, when people suppress it, the consequences are devastating. Today we are not in this session just to describe the damages, we are to raise the voice of a community that does not deserve to be treated as no man's land. We are here to clearly say that Lesha, Mirdita and Kurbini do not need lies in front of the cameras , "said Gjekmarkaj.
