Sali Berisha has responded again to Ervin Salianj regarding his exclusion from the race for the leadership of the Democratic Party. He stressed that those who have betrayed the party and collaborated with political opponents cannot be allowed to run.
In a communication with followers, Berisha defended the electoral process within the DP, describing it as among the most democratic.
According to the leading democrat, any member who meets the criteria has the right to run, but not those who have acted against the party.
"The DP has the most democratic and honest race... this party accepts any democrat who meets the criteria," said Berisha, adding that it is unacceptable to include in the race people who have campaigned against the DP or have changed political sides.
He emphasized that in every political party in the world, such persons are expelled due to "treason in a moment of battle," while underlining that clear criteria must be met to run for president.
Berisha used harsh tones and declared that "Salinj was sold in prison" and that, according to him, he had crossed over to the other political side.
"The DP is open, but it cannot be taken over by sold candidacies. Rama can never take over this party in this way," said Berisha.
"The Democratic Party has the fairest competition and the most democratic form of competition that can exist."
