From Berlin, where he is participating in the 'Berlin Global Dialogue' forum, Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke about Albania's integration process. Rama said that the goal of being part of the Union by 2030 is not a wish, but an agenda agreed with the EU.
And in this context, Rama said that by 2027, all homework must be completed.
"We have agreed on a calendar. The calendar means that for all the homework that we need to do to achieve full membership, we need to continue from now until 2027 and close the chapters. It is a challenge but if we move in accordance with the calendar then their side of the agreement is that they will call the negotiations closed and ask the member states to ratify, we have foreseen another 2 years. That's why I said 2030, based on this agreement. It is not something that we simply wish for," Rama said.
However, Rama stressed that the EU is unpredictable, as it is a patient with 27 doctors.
"The impact of a very high pressure coming from Russian aggression, but not only, but in general from the great changes in the world, is such that it keeps the EU very focused on this aspect, with the EU you never know, it is not a predictable beast, it can change, because it is not a country. It is an assembly of 27, it is a patient with 27 doctors, all pathologists and this complicates it even more, because you need to agree on everything at every moment, so tragically optimistic, it is the best position to stay in," said Rama.
