The former leader of the Democratic Party in Saranda, Manjola Nikollo, has revealed why she accepted the proposal to take on the position of deputy mayor of Saranda Municipality.
Nikollo stated in a public statement that her political journey has been linked to the Democratic Party for about 15 years, emphasizing the importance of the opposition as part of democratic functioning.
She says that after running in the primary for deputy candidate, conflicts began with deputy Ina Zhupa, who, according to Nikollos, used her position to influence membership and even to manipulate the voting process.
" All of you who have been my fellow travelers, you know well these problems and internal clashes that arose in our branch. The clashes that took place for the primaries for deputy for the Vlora district, which was contested by me and some democrats in silence, after there was a vote orientation towards Ms. Zhupa.
"Ms. Zhupa managed to use her influence on the members of the DP and this upset the balance in this process. There were interventions such as the case of Konispol, which turned out to be invalid, or the failure to provide lists of members who had the right to vote ," she said.
Nikollo adds that she later left the leadership of the PD in Saranda, and was also removed from the structure's WhatsApp group.
" Since I was no longer the leader of the DP, because I resigned due to the instructions issued by the center for the primaries, this resignation was taken as Manjola's exclusion from these elections. Surprisingly, I was no longer announced at any meetings or organized events. I am a democrat ," she says.
According to her, the decision to become part of the Saranda Municipality has no political background:
" Manjola enters that municipality as a Democrat. Everyone knows me very well and labels me as the Manjola of the DP. What I promise to the Democrats, especially to those Democrats whom I have disappointed, please have faith. I am the Manjola that you voted for and supported. I am your voice in that municipality. I promise that I will leave that Municipality with my head held high, where I will protect the interests of the citizens. I am here to make my contribution. "
