The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, has raised the alarm over the impact of demographic developments on the country's national security, describing this issue as one of the most serious challenges facing Albanian society today.
During his speech at an event of the Academy of Sciences, the Head of State emphasized that the significant decline in the number of students, the emergence of collective classes and the lack of vitality in rural areas are clear indicators of the demographic crisis that the country is experiencing.
"Demographic developments affect the foundations of our society, our future. The forecasts are pessimistic due to low birth rates and continued emigration," said Begaj.
According to the President, Albania is facing a significant shortage of active labor, while youth unemployment remains high, making the situation even more worrying.
"Addressing demographics must be a national priority. Visionary and long-term policies are required to sustainably address this crisis and secure the country's future," he stressed.
President Begaj called for a comprehensive approach and institutional cooperation to address this vital challenge for Albania's sustainable development.
