The Committee on Europe and Foreign Affairs approves the draft law on gender equality by majority vote, sending it to the Assembly for discussion and approval.
This draft law was the first item on the agenda that involved the opposition and the majority in strong debates. At the end of the discussions, the chairman of the committee, Igli Hasani, invited the deputies to vote. In the end, the draft law was voted on with 8 votes from the SP deputies in the committee, while it received 2 votes against from the opposition and one abstention.
He then went through the article by article and in its entirety. This was the first point of discussion, as earlier the Democratic MP Tritan Shehu asked the Socialists not to create stagnation and chaos and to withdraw the draft law, proposing that it be put to a referendum. He said that the majority was seeking to undermine the traditional family, where the goal was gender reassignment. MP Taulant Balla denied this, saying that this draft law only aimed at gender equality between men and women, both in state and private institutions, where they would have equal rights and representation.
Agenda of the Committee on Europe and Foreign Affairs:
