Von der Leyen and Pfizer: missing messages, untouchable apartment and many unanswered questions...

Following the rejection of the no-confidence motion against Ursula von der Leyen by the European Parliament, the European Commission has moved to provide a public justification: “the Russians are behind this initiative.” This is the thesis twisted by Brussels spokespeople and reinforced by a report on a propaganda network linked to Moscow, which allegedly attacked the figure of the Commission president on social media.

Marcello Foa /

But according to Marcello Foa, journalist and former president of RAI, this is a classic maneuver to avoid real debate on the major problems weighing on von der Leyen's mandate: Pfizer, Qatargate, the lack of transparency and the unreasonable strengthening of her role.

"The fire was there, the Russians just fanned the flames"

Foa sums it up clearly: even if Russian propaganda has influenced public opinion, the real reasons for the motion are internal and justified. From shady contracts with Pfizer to interference in domestic issues such as rearmament, the Commission president has accumulated a series of legitimate criticisms that cannot be relativized by pointing fingers at the Kremlin.

The usual alibi: if Russia criticizes you, you're on the right side

Foa explains that this is a well-known propaganda mechanism, similar to the one used in the US during the “Russiagate” against Trump: when you are in trouble, you invent an external enemy to avoid accountability. In this case, Brussels is trying to portray Ursula as the victim of a Russian hybrid attack, to drown out discussion about her real mismanagement.

Why didn't they allow her to be investigated? Is Ursula above the law?

One of the most worrying accusations raised by Foa is that of "legal extraterritoriality": Von der Leyen lives in an apartment within the Commission, which cannot be raided by Belgian justice. A legal shield that places her beyond any control. We recall that even her messages with Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla have disappeared without a trace, a very dangerous precedent for democratic transparency standards.

Conclusion: Ursula is being held by propaganda, not faith

Instead of responding to concrete accusations and giving an account of her actions as President of the European Commission, Von der Leyen is trying to reframe the discourse in ideological and security terms, using the “ghost of the Russians” as a political shield. But this time, even this is not enough to stop the wave of discontent that is growing even within the EU itself./ Pamphlet
