European ultimatum for Edi Rama: No Erdoganist mayor in Tirana!
Edi Rama and Regep Tayyip Erdogan /

Germany, France and the Netherlands are asking Rama to distance himself from Turkish services, stop Islamic financing and not appoint a pro-Erdogan candidate in Tirana, otherwise, Albania's integration will be blocked...

The European Union, through its main chancelleries such as Berlin, Paris, the Netherlands and official Brussels, has sent a political ultimatum to Prime Minister Edi Rama. This initiative comes as a result of Albania's dual stance between the West and the Turkish-Arab alliances, which are considered a strategic threat to the continuation of EU integration.

According to diplomatic sources, part of the ultimatum package is also a request for Albania’s withdrawal from the Organization of the Islamic Conference, as well as a ban on any attempt to increase Turkish influence in Albanian political life. During a recent visit to Aachen, Germany, where European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was honored with the “Charlemagne” prize, Rama was made clear that any attempt to promote candidates with direct ties to Ankara, especially for the Municipality of Tirana, will be considered a red line by the EU.

In this context, the EU has presented Albania with a clear action plan, which includes: banning operational contacts between Albanian secret services and the Turkish MIT, cutting off external funding that promotes non-European political or religious agendas, and placing all security structures under surveillance. According to this plan, the surveillance will be carried out by the EU Directorate for Foreign Affairs and Security, which will have access to the work of the Police, SHISH, justice institutions and other critical national security agencies.

Since 2016, as part of the Justice Reform, the EU has been monitoring the vetting bodies through the ONM. Now, in the new phase of rapprochement with the EU, this monitoring will be extended to other sectors of the state. In this way, the aim is to cleanse Turkey's strategic influence and turn attention solely towards the West.

The monitoring has been underway for a month, with the arrival of new German advisors to SPAK, while new financial packages from Germany and the Netherlands have come into effect. The European funds multiply those from the US and include logistical support, funding for training, as well as bringing in a large number of experts in the fields of finance and information technology to support anti-corruption investigations.

In this context, it has been made clear to Edi Rama that any attempt to publicly attack SPAK or the justice institutions will be followed by a blockade of the integration process. Europe no longer requires political promises, but concrete evidence of Albania's strategic orientation./ Pamphlet
