The SP has proposed the establishment of a parliamentary commission that will monitor the portals....
Prime Minister Edi Rama seems to have returned to his old idea of 'killing' free speech. Using the justification of a memorandum of understanding between Albania and the USA, to address the manipulation of information by foreign state actors, camouflaged under the idea of stopping disinformation from states like China and Russia, Rama seems to be using this chance to I also shut up the portals. The SP has today proposed the establishment of a parliamentary commission that will monitor the portals.
Although a few years ago, Rama tried to make changes in the law to close the portals, this scheme, tried several times, failed. Rama withdrew after the reactions of international organizations, which find it disturbing that the government was trying to get its hands on free speech.
Apparently, Rama is trying to silence the portals, which have remained almost the only 'voice' that daily denounces the affairs and scandals of the government. Given that the prime minister has not been able to buy and shut up the portals, he is trying another scheme which he will most likely try to scare them.
It was the head of the Parliamentary group of the Socialist Party, Bledi Çuçi, who announced this Thursday that he has submitted a request to the Speaker of the Assembly for the creation of this Commission.
Meanwhile, Rama, in a reaction on the X platform regarding this Commission, seems to have given it his "blessing", writing that this is very important to move forward.
The Special Commission will implement a holistic and long-term approach to addressing foreign interference in democratic processes, which may include disinformation campaigns in traditional and social media to influence public opinion, direct and indirect financial support for efforts for disinformation, economic blackmail of public actors and manipulation of civil society ", says the announcement that Çuçi made public today.
Very important to move on with full speed???????? https://t.co/VqRjtZw6oD
