Prime Minister Edi Rama today presented the draft law for the creation of the National Waste Treatment Operator, a state-owned enterprise that will deal with waste management at the national level.
Prime Minister Edi Rama described the environment as the most difficult and challenging chapter of the negotiation process for Albania's membership in the European Union.
Rama said that in some areas, such as Himara, there have been significant improvements compared to a year ago, but according to him, the country still has a lot of work ahead.
"With Himara and beyond, things have gone better than last year. There is an encouraging improvement. We must continue at an even higher pace in terms of reforms and legal measures in function of the priority, national objective of EU membership at the end of this decade," said Rama.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the process of environmental reforms will not be administered by municipalities, but will be led in a centralized manner, describing these measures as crucial for Albania's progress towards integration.
"I wish that everyone without exception, at all levels and territories who have a public function, whether elected or as a civil servant related to environmental issues, should realize that this is the most challenging chapter of the negotiations and the path to the EU," said the head of government.
