Democratic deputy Agron Gjekmarkaj has welcomed the reaction of the US and British embassies, which condemn violence in the Assembly and urgently seek dialogue between the SP and PD.
According to Gjekmarkaj, the majority does not respect the legitimate demands of the opposition, such as investigative commissions.
" I welcome the constructive statements of our strategic partners USA-Great Britain, for constructive dialogue between the opposition and the majority
With the responsibility towards the interest of the citizens for more than a month, the opposition demands the return to normality of the Parliament and its full functioning, respecting the constitutional rights of the opposition. A parliament that does not respect the rights of the opposition loses its normal functioning, denying the exercise of responsibility for democratic oversight of the government. It is unacceptable for a democratic country that the constructive dialogue between the parties is replaced by the transformation of the parliament hall into a guard ward, to suppress the voice of the opposition for its rights with security forces. With full confidence that the normal functioning of the Parliament requires above all the respect of the opposition, I call on the Speaker of the Assembly and the majority to reflect and create the opportunity for the opposition to calmly exercise its constitutional rights in defense of the interests of the citizens. The establishment of investigative commissions and giving up the appointment of the opposition are prerequisites for an Albania worthy of being a member of NATO and a candidate country in the EU ", he says.
