The United States Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, was in Tirana this Tuesday, where she participated in the signing ceremony of an energy agreement between Albania, the United States, and Greece, worth approximately $6 billion.
During the event, she announced that two important agreements are being signed aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and increasing security in the Western Balkans. The project envisages a 20-year agreement in the energy sector, aiming to supply Southern Europe with liquefied gas from the United States.
“What an honor to be here in Albania, a steadfast partner of the US and a country of extraordinary strategic importance for the Balkans and Europe, alongside our friend Edi Rama. There are two important agreements being signed today, the $20 billion deal for liquefied natural gas that shows Albania is playing a growing role as a BP liaison. This interaction strengthens energy and national security. The Memorandum of Understanding for the commissioning of a core energy hub, including a gas plant, demonstrates the importance that the Albanian government attaches to sustainable energy for the benefit of citizens. In the energy sector, security and economy go hand in hand.
President Trump has been an ardent champion of energy security. The Trump administration has elevated it as a pillar around the world. While we are talking about regional powers, I want to acknowledge the importance of strong Albania-Greece ties. They are more than close neighbors and economic cooperation. When the US, Albania and Greece work together, the entire region benefits,” she said at the press conference.
According to the ambassador, the agreements are expected to increase Albania's role as a key node in the regional energy network, contributing to the energy security and economic development of the region.
