The Prime Minister has also spoken about the integration of our country in the European Union, as he stated that he does not see any major difference between the EU and Albania, apart from the economic gap.
Prime Minister Edi Rama is in Prague, where he is taking part in the Conference of European Leaders, as part of the work of the GLOBSEC forum.
In a conversation with moderator Steve Celmons on the topic, "Region under siege: The fragility of the Western Balkans", Rama touched on Albania's path to the European Union.
Rama also spoke about the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia and what is Albania's position regarding this issue. He said that Albania supports peace and dialogue, as he declared that we cannot look at the future with the eyes of the past. Further, Rama said that Albanians and Albania have never been better than today.
The Prime Minister has also spoken about the integration of our country in the European Union, as he stated that he does not see any major difference between the EU and Albania, apart from the economic gap. He also emphasized that our country would be an added value of the Union.
"Albania is on the side of peace, on the side of dialogue, of common progress, our strong conviction is that we should not see the future with the eyes of the past. When starting from here many things become clear, many obstacles become less problematic and more steps can be taken. We have promoted peace, dialogue and cooperation with all. My visit to Serbia was the starting point of something in which I strongly believe. The Western Balkans is in a much better position. I have to say that I don't see any big difference between us and the EU anymore. When it comes to the economy we have a considerable gap, but for the rest I don't see any big difference. We are Europeans, this is not decided in Brussels. Looking at the perspective of being full members of the EU, I say that we would be an added value", said Rama.
Prime Minister Rama also said that Albania is engaged without reservations, as he also stopped at the countries of the region, in some of which the popularity of Russian President Vladimir Putin is great.
"It is very clear for Albania: we are without any reservations, since we do everything without reservations. We are not good Eurocrats, we are not Europeans, but we are Albanians. We unreservedly want to become members of the EU, we have harmonized with the EU's foreign policy, we are unreservedly in NATO and we are unreservedly against Russian aggression in the EU. It's very clear, wherever you go, where we belong. While this does not apply to the entire region. Putin's popularity in Albania is 1% or less, while there are other countries in the region where Putin's popularity is greater than that of Biden or Kamala Harris," said the prime minister.
