Prime Minister Rama stated that the negotiations will be closed in 2027. According to him, this is not what he says, but the EU. While mentioning a statement by Albania's former chief negotiator in the EU, Zef Mazi, that the closure of negotiations in 2027 is an illusion, Rama said that they have a plan and a calendar on the table for this period.
"I'm not saying that we will close the negotiations in 2027. Zef Mazi is my friend, the man who was the chief negotiator in the first phase, but it's been a while since information came out and he probably hasn't updated the information. We have this on the table with a plan and a calendar.
"There are no buts. At the table with the EU we have the calendar and the plan agreed with them is that this is the calendar, this is the path to close the negotiations within 2027. They have never said this before. The door has not been opened before ," Rama said.
Rama also said that the EU unanimously not only no longer rejects the idea of enlargement but also supports it. While analyst Arjon Sulo mentioned Montenegro, the socialist leader said that the neighboring country has been negotiating for years and has not yet closed them, while Albania has made great progress in such a short time.
"The door has never been opened for Albania before, today it is open. Let me explain Montenegro as well. The door has never been open before. You, Zefi and anyone else could have had this conversation before this phase. They could have said, hey, look, you say this, they say that, but in the meantime, here are the negotiations. Today we are in different conditions. These are the new conditions. First, the EU unanimously not only no longer rejects the idea of enlargement, but also supports it," Rama told "Report TV".
