The Parliament has postponed the election of the People's Advocate, while the Democratic leader Sali Berisha asked for the votes of the Socialists to elect Besim Ndregjoni. Berisha said that it is in the honor of the Parliament that a representative from the class of former politically persecuted people be elected as the head of the People's Advocate Institution. But Niko Peleshi, the leader of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, said that the proposal really belongs to the opposition, but there have been no discussions regarding the name of Ndregjoni.
Under such conditions, Berisha requested that Ndregjoni's election not be put to a vote, thus avoiding the burning of his name, a proposal that was accepted by Peleshi.
The debate
Sali Berisha: I invite the assembly to unite the votes, to pass as representatives of the People's Advocate, Besim Ndreqoni, who represents the large class of politically persecuted.
Niko Peleshi: We know and we all know the tradition of electing the Ombudsman, it is up to the Assembly to choose, but the proposals belong to the opposition and there is discussion to reach a consensual name. It must be said that even in respect of the names.
We must give seriousness to the process, do not leave it in the session, it is said a name. We do not have a political decision, as long as this process has been missing, if we do not have a result for a certain name, I invite the opposition to build the process as is the tradition to reach a consensus on a name. We are not against any name, let's build the process and talk about your proposals.
Sali Berisha: If the problem requires more in-depth consultation, don't put it to the vote, let's do the consultation and come and vote. We have full confidence that that candidate honors that position.
Peleshi: We agree to remove it from the agenda and build the process as is tradition.
