Archbishop Janullatos passes away, Meta and Basha send message of condolence:

Former President Ilir Meta has reacted from prison to the passing of the Archbishop of Albania, Anastas Janullatos, who passed away this morning at the age of 96.

Through a post on social media, he expressed that Archbishop Janullatos will remain a special spiritual leader and his legacy will always remain alive.

"With deep sadness and great pain, I received the news of the passing of the Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and all of Albania, Anastasios Janullatos. A special spiritual leader and inspiring example of love for people, with divine vision and rare wisdom, we will forever remain grateful to him for everything he has done in these years for the Glory of God, for the good of the Church, which in difficult circumstances he rebuilt from the ruins and developed further, for the good of the Albanian Orthodox believers, for the strengthening of harmony, tolerance and inter-religious coexistence, this national treasure of our people. My deepest condolences for this great and irreplaceable loss to the senior leaders of the Church and the entire Orthodox community of Albania! The legacy of Archbishop Anastasios will always remain alive and his memory will be unforgettable," Meta wrote.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Euro-Atlantic Democrats, Lulzim Basha, has also expressed condolences for the passing of Archbishop Anastasios Janullatos.

In a Facebook post, Basha wrote that this is a moment of sadness for the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania and for all those who knew and appreciated his work. He further expressed his condolences to the Orthodox believers, the clergy and all those who remember him with respect and gratitude.

"I received with sadness the news of the eternal passing of His Beatitude, Archbishop Anastasios Janullatos. This is a moment of sorrow not only for the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, but for all those who were fortunate enough to know and appreciate his contribution to peace, religious dialogue and charitable works in service to people in need.

Archbishop Anastasios Janullatos will remain a symbol of spiritual devotion, wisdom and strength of character, reminding us of the importance of religious coexistence, tolerance and love for every person. I express my most sincere condolences to the Orthodox believers, the clergy and all those who will always remember him with gratitude and respect. May he rest in peace! ", writes Basha.
